Rehabilitation Services

Sanford Canby Medical Center Rehabilitation Services provides Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology services by licensed and certified staff.  The staff provides inpatient, outpatient, and skilled nursing rehabilitation services.

The Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists serve patients in their homes in cooperation with the Home Health staff, assisting the physician in evaluating the patient's condition and providing the recommended therapy.

Physical Therapy for orthopedic injury, muscle and joint pain, total joint replacement recovery, sports injuries and performance conditioning, stroke and neurological trauma recovery, incontinence/pelvic floor strengthening, balance and dizziness problems/fall prevention, work conditioning/industrial injuries, home safety assessment: post-traumatic injury and amputation recovery, pre- and post-pregnancy exercises.  Ultrasound, light therapy, e-stim, massage, and whirlpool are also available.

Occupational Therapy for improving participation in tasks for daily living, adaptive equipment for independence and safety, stroke and neurological trauma recovery, orthopedic injury and joint replacement recovery, cognitive and memory assessments, hand injuries and custom splinting, wheelchair assessments, workstation consultations, low vision adaption, home safety assessment, and lymphedema therapy.

Speech Pathology for speech and communication difficulties, swallowing disorders/video swallow studies, cognitive and thinking impairments, stroke and neurological trauma recovery, augmentative communication, Lee Silverman Voice Therapy for Parkinson's Disease, accent reduction program, and voice therapy.

Cardiac Rehab for conditions affecting individuals with documented cardiac disease such as stable angina pectoris (chest pain), myocardial infarction (heart attack), or cardiovascular surgery.


Sanford Canby Medical Center is pleased to offer Rehabilitation Services in Canby and the surrounding communities; as well as the satellite clinics in Minneota, MN and Clear Lake, SD.

Lynn Rost, PT
Physical Therapist

Lynn is a Physical Therapist.  She attended college at University of South Dakota for 4 years and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology.  She then attended 2 more years and earned her Masters in Physical Therapy.

When asking Lynn what she likes best about her job, she stated, "The rural community and variety of areas we work in and variety of patients we see."




Niccole Mack, DPT
Physical Therapist


Niccole is a Physical Therapist.  She attended North Dakota State University for 4 years and the University of North Dakota for 3 1/2 years.  She has earned her doctorate of Physical Therapy.

When asking Niccole what she likes best about her job, she stated, "The interaction with people, going home each day knowing you have helped improve another individual’s life in some way."




Karen Sievers, PT
Physical Therapist 

Karen is a Physical Therapist.  She attended DWU for 3 years and USD for 2 years.  She earned her B.A. from DWU and her Master of Science from USD.

When asking Karen what she likes most about her job, she stated, "I learn something new every day. T here is never a dull moment, but very rewarding.  Also working part-time allows more time with my family."






Jason Anderson
Physical Therapist

Jason is a Physical Therapist. He attended the University of Mary in Bismark, ND, for 6 years where he received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and BS in Exercise Science.

When asking Jason what he likes best about the job, he stated, "I get the opportunity each day to work with patients and make a differenct in their lives; also, SCMC has a great staff that makes coming to work enjoyable each day."




Casey Meier
Physical Therapist
Casey attended the University of South Dakota for 4 years and received her Bachelors degree. Then she when on to 3 years for USD's physical therapy program where she earned her Doctorate degree.

When asking Casey what she likes best about her job, she stated, "I enjoy the variety of people we get to meet, and the time we get to spend treating our patients, because you feel like you really get to know them."






Jennifer Klinkhammer
Speech Therapist

Jennifer attended South Dakota State University and earned a B.S. in Communication Disorders.  She earned a M.A. from the University of South Dakota. 

When asking Jennifer what she likes best about her job, she stated, "The warm and friendly atmosphere to connect interpersonally with patients and staff to meet the unique needs of each individual.  Working part-time also allows flexibility to continue my career and raise a family."







Audrey Bouvette, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant 


Audrey is a Registered Physical Therapist Assistant.  She earned her degree at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD.  She attended Lake Area Technical College for 2 1/2 years.

When asking Audrey what she likes most about her job, she stated, "It's never dull.  You learn something every day and there are great people to work with."







Amanda Ostlie, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant

Amanda is a Physical Therapist assistant. She graduated from Northwest Technical College in East Grand Forks, MN, in 2000, with an Associates of Applied Science in Physical Therapy.

When asking Amanda what she likes most about her job, she stated, "I like helping people get back to their daily lives and all the wonderful people I work with."






Julie Koenig, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant

Julie is a Physical Therapist assistant. She attended Lake Area Tech in Watertown, SD, and graduated in May 2008, with an Associates of Applied Science in Physical Therapy.

When asking Julie what she likes most about her job, she stated, "I enjoy being able to work in a rural community and still see such a wide variety of patients."







Joy Brakke, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist 


Joy is a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist and also the Director of Rehabilitation Services.  She attended the University of South Dakota and the University of St. Augustine to earn her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree.

When asking Joy what she likes best about her job, she stated, "The variety of people I get to meet and work with."






Maria Petersen, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist
 

Maria is a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist.  She has earned her Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy with a Psychology minor.  She attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, for 5 1/2 years and she graduated with Suma Cum Laude, highest honors.

When asking Maria what she likes most about her job, she stated, "Helping people maintain their independence, team work, friendly co-workers, and giving back to the community where I grew up."





Jamie Wiesner, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist 

Jamie attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, and obtained her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy after 5 1/2 years.  She worked in the school system for 4 1/2 years before joining the rehab team at Sanford Canby Medical Center.

Jamie works part time which allows her to help people to be as independent as possible and improve their quality of life, as well as, spending time with her family.





Katie Krier, COTA
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Katie is a Certified Occupational Therapy assistant. She graduated from the OTA program at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD.

When asking Katie what she likes most about her job, she stated, "I enjoy the variety of patients served and the fast-paced environment."







Julianne Decker, MS, CCC, SLP
Speech Language-Pathologist 

Julianne is a Speech Language-Pathologist.  She attended the University of Minnesota, where she received her under-graduate degree.  She then attended the University of Wisconsin (Steven's Point) and earned her Masters of Science.

When asking Julianne what she likes best about her job, she stated, "There is a variety of patients and diagnosis, and there is a great team of people in Rehabilitation Services at Sanford Canby Medical Center!"




Randy Strand
Massage Therapist 


Randy attended the Advanced Massage Therapy Program at Ridgewater College in Willman, MN.  Randy's areas of interest include sports massage, deep tissue, reflexology, relaxation and hot/cold stone.

When asking Randy what he likes best about his job, hestated, "I enjoy the variety of different clients I get to work with. Canby is a great place to begin my massage career."
