Radiology

The Sanford Canby Medical Center Radiology and Imaging Services department is staffed by one registered/certified Radiologic Technologist/Mammographer, three registered Radiologic Technologists, two Ultrasonographers, a registered Vascular Ultrasonographer, and one board certified Radiologist.

We offer 24-hour Radiology Services to all ages of patients including inpatients, outpatients, clinic, home health, and nursing home residents. Department hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

We are proud to offer you the variety of services listed below.

Diagnostic In-House Services provided:
  • Diagnostic Radiology - To assist physicians in diagnosis of a patient's disease through the use of radiography (x-rays), fluoroscopy (C-Arm), and portable x-rays which may be done in the emergency department, surgery, and the patient's room.
  • Mammography - A low dose x-ray examination of the breast tissue using a dedicated system of x-ray exposure, compression, and film processing according to stringent guidelines put forth by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act). We do both screening and diagnostic mammograms. Screening mammograms do not need a doctor's order to be done. Diagnostic mammograms (spot compression, mag views, and needle localization) are done when the radiologist is present. SCMC is proud to be an accredited facility that can provide quality mammograms for this area.
  • CT (Computerized Tomography) - CT requires the patient to travel through a rotating ring of very thin x-ray beams. These images are collected and displayed on a screen and with the use of a computer, the images are manipulated and evaluated, sometimes in three dimension. These services are provided 24 hours a day.
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound – Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce images on a monitor. Internal organs, fetus in mother’s womb, and gall bladder are just a few of the studies done. A few vascular studies are done also.
  • Bone Density Services – This is used to determine bone density and if a patient needs medical intervention to prevent further bone loss.
  • Digitalradiology - Allows x-rays to be digitized over special equipment and then sent to Sanford Health to be read by a radiologist. This state-of-the-art technology allows immediate access during emergency situations.
Mobile Services:
  • MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services are provided by Sanford Health twice a week. MRI gives off electromagnetic signals that are converted to images on a screen. MRI is able to produce pictures that show changes in bone marrow, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, tumors in organs, and hemorrhage.
  • Echocardiogram - Services are provided by Sanford Health twice a week. Echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. Doctors are able to see the blood flow through the heart.
  • Cardiovascular Ultrasound - Services are provided by Sanford Cardiovascular Lab twice a week.
  • Nuclear Medicine - Services are provided by DMS Imaging once a week. Nuclear medicine is used to diagnose or treat diseases by injecting a radiopharmaceutical agent into your system. These agents attach to organs and body parts and can be detected by a camera which records their appearance and function.
